As we celebrate 20 years of Aprendamos Family of Services, we are proud to highlight another incredible leader and team member, Brenda Miranda, who has been part of our story for more than a decade. Brenda’s journey is one of heart, dedication, and a deep commitment to the children and families we serve.

Finding Her Purpose

Brenda began her time at Aprendamos in the fall of 2014 as an intern. Just a few months later, in January 2015, she accepted a full-time position as a Family Service Coordinator and Childcare Liaison. She would go on to serve in that role for seven years—a chapter she holds close to her heart.

As a Family Service Coordinator (FSC), Brenda often wore many hats. Some days she was a counselor, other days a teacher, a friend, or even a parent figure—whatever the families needed most. Entering homes as part of her service often felt like becoming part of the family. The work was personal, emotional, and deeply meaningful.

She also found joy in serving as part of the Outreach Team, where she built strong connections within the community, particularly with daycare staff. For Brenda, this wasn’t just about representing Aprendamos—it was about partnering with others who shared her passion for supporting children and families.

During this time, Brenda formed lasting friendships and heard stories that still stay with her. When she first joined, Aprendamos was a smaller, slower-paced organization, which allowed for deep reflection and connection. As the organization grew and expanded its reach, the pace quickened—but Brenda remained rooted in her purpose. For her, the heart of Aprendamos has always been about people: the families, the connections, and the shared mission of creating a brighter future for children.

Growing Into Leadership

Today, Brenda serves as our Quality Assurance Manager, a leadership role where she supervises a team of thirteen dedicated staff. While this was a significant shift in her career path, Brenda embraced the opportunity to expand her knowledge and impact. In her current role, she supports her team in upholding the values and high standards that define Aprendamos.

In Brenda’s words: “Stepping into a leadership role has been incredibly rewarding. It has allowed me to mentor and guide others, providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive as Family Service Coordinators and Developmental Specialists.”

She continues her journey at Aprendamos not just because of the impact of the work, but because of the organization’s unwavering support for her personal life. “I’ve also stayed because this organization has supported me as I’ve grown into a new chapter of my own life, becoming a parent,” she shared. “Aprendamos has always respected that my family comes first, and for that, I’m deeply grateful. I’ve been able to be present for my son’s milestones while continuing to fulfill my responsibilities and grow professionally. That balance—being supported both as a team member and as a parent—is something truly special, and it’s one of the many reasons this work, and this place, continues to mean so much to me.”

A Memory That Stuck

Among many treasured experiences, one of Brenda’s favorite memories is helping organize a petting zoo for families during Aprendamos’ annual Trunk or Treat event. With ice cream, animal photos, and lots of laughter, it was a joyful day for all.

What made it truly meaningful, however, was the collaboration behind it. Coming together as a team to create a special experience for families reflected the spirit of Aprendamos. The pure happiness on the children’s faces reminded Brenda of the lasting impact they can make when they lead with heart and community spirit.

A Moment That Changed Everything

One of the most powerful moments of Brenda’s career happened early on. She visited a family caring for a medically fragile baby who had recently returned home from the hospital. The baby, diagnosed with multiple conditions, was crying endlessly in the sweltering summer heat, with only a fan to provide relief.

Brenda gently offered to hold him, rocking him in front of the fan until he fell asleep. The mother, visibly overwhelmed, began to relax, and the two were able to connect. Brenda offered every service and support she could—but left the visit in tears, moved by the family’s challenges and determined to help.

That child remained in the program for three years and graduated thriving and healthy. For Brenda, it was a defining moment—a reminder of why showing up with compassion and presence can mean everything to a family in need.

Looking Ahead with Heart

Reflecting on the growth she has seen over the past 20 years; Brenda shared her vision for the future of Aprendamos. For her, this work has never been just a job, it’s a calling.

She believes that by remaining grounded in its mission, listening to the voices of families, and embracing thoughtful innovation, Aprendamos can continue to evolve and grow with purpose. It is this commitment to making a lasting impact that will carry the organization forward for generations to come.

Why It Matters

Brenda has seen firsthand how Aprendamos has transformed lives—through the growing number of children served and the expansion of family-centered programs. Seeing this evolution has been both inspiring and affirming.

For her, one of the most rewarding parts of the work is hearing directly from families. Their stories and gratitude reflect the true purpose behind the mission. In those words, in those moments of connection and growth, Brenda is reminded of just how meaningful this work truly is.

Your child’s first visit to Esperanza is usually an initial evaluation appointment. This visit gives our therapists the chance to understand your concerns, learn about your child’s development, and determine if therapy services like speech, occupational, or physical therapy would be beneficial. We take a compassionate, family-centered approach to help your child thrive from day one. Why is the first evaluation important? The first visit is where everything begins. It’s not just about checking boxes—it’s about building trust and setting a foundation for your child’s care. Families are often referred by their medical provider, and they come to us looking for answers about their child’s development, behavior, or communication. During this visit, you’ll meet with one of our experienced therapists who will: Ask questions about your child’s medical and developmental history Talk with you about any concerns you have Observe your child in a supportive, play-based setting This evaluation helps us understand your child’s needs and whether therapy might support their growth and daily life. What happens during the evaluation? Evaluations are done in a relaxed, child-friendly environment—our specialized motor gyms and observation rooms are designed with kids in mind. The therapist will: Engage your child in simple, age-appropriate activities Observe how your child moves, plays, communicates, and interacts Listen closely to your questions and goals We take a whole-child approach—looking at everything from motor skills to social and emotional development. After the session, the therapist will share insights and discuss next steps with you. What should families expect after the first visit? After the evaluation, our therapist will review the results and determine if your child could benefit from ongoing therapy. If services are recommended, we’ll work with you to build a personalized treatment plan—often including speech, occupational, or physical therapy , depending on your child’s specific needs. We’ll also help you understand your insurance benefits and guide you through scheduling options that fit your routine, whether you live in Las Cruces, Anthony, or Chaparral . How does Esperanza support families through the process? We know it can feel overwhelming at first, but you’re not alone. At Esperanza, our bilingual staff and family-centered environment are here to support you every step of the way. We offer: Flexible weekday scheduling from 8 AM to 6 PM Bilingual therapists and culturally sensitive care Opportunities for you to observe therapy sessions Our goal is to help you feel confident and supported as your child grows.
