Guadalupe Alaniz
Clinician

Guadalupe Alaniz, was born and raised in central Mexico. Growing up in a culturally rich environment shaped my understanding of family, resilience, and the power of community. These early experiences inspired a lifelong passion for helping others, especially children and families navigating difficult circumstances. When I moved to the United States, I was determined to continue my education and build a career rooted in service. I earned my undergraduate degree from New Mexico State University (NMSU), where I developed a strong foundation in social sciences and community engagement. Wanting to deepen my skills and commitment to the field, I pursued and completed a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Western New Mexico University (WNMU).

Since 2018, I’ve had the privilege of working with families through Protective Services, where I supported children and caregivers facing complex challenges. My role allowed me to work with diverse populations—something that has always been close to my heart—and gave me a firsthand look at the systemic and personal barriers families often face. In time, I transitioned to Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS), where I continued to advocate for children and families, providing them with access to critical resources and mental health support. Whether through counseling, family outreach, or school-based programs, my goal has always been the same: to help individuals recognize their strengths and use them to build a better future.

In 2025, I achieved a significant personal and professional milestone by earning my Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential. This accomplishment reflects years of dedication, learning, and an unwavering belief in the potential of the people I serve. At the core of my work is a simple but powerful belief: every child and family has the potential to thrive when given the right support, resources, and encouragement. My mission is to walk alongside them, whether that means connecting them to services or helping them discover their own inner strength. My journey—from central Mexico to becoming an LCSW in the United States—has been one of growth, humility, and deep gratitude. I remain passionate about creating safe, supportive spaces for children and families to heal, grow, and become the best version of themselves.

As a clinical social worker, I believe in meeting clients where they are and creating a safe, supportive space for healing and growth.

My approach is creative, client-centered, and developmentally informed. I often integrate sand tray therapy into sessions, a powerful modality that allows clients of all ages to express and process experiences in a nonverbal, symbolic way. I am currently completing my certification through the Sand Tray Training Institute of New Mexico, deepening my understanding and skills in this expressive technique.

In addition to sand tray therapy, I regularly incorporate play therapy interventions, particularly when working with younger clients. I am passionate about the therapeutic power of play and am working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) in the future.

I am also proud to be the co-creator and co-facilitator of Brick Club at Alegria—a small, Lego-based therapy group designed to help youth ages 4–18 develop social, communication, and relational skills in a fun, supportive group setting. Brick Club has become a meaningful part of my work, combining creativity, connection, and clinical intention.

Every individual and family I work with brings a unique story and set of strengths. My goal is to honor those strengths and walk alongside clients in their journey toward greater resilience, connection, and well-being.
